Halloween Things to Do in Brisbane (2026)
If you’re looking for Halloween things to do in Brisbane this year, the calendar has done you a favour: 31 October 2026 falls on a Saturday. No school night, no Sunday-morning regret for the parents doing the rounds, and a full weekend to use rather than a rushed Tuesday evening.
October is a busy month in this city anyway. Term 4 started on Tuesday 6 October, straight after the King’s Birthday long weekend, and the Oktoberfest run has been going at the Showgrounds and the German Club since the start of the month. By the time Halloween arrives, Brisbane is thoroughly in the mood for dressing up.
Here’s what’s on, suburb by suburb and crowd by crowd.
Trick-or-treating in Brisbane: where and when
Brisbane does Halloween more enthusiastically than most Australian cities, and it’s concentrated in particular streets rather than spread evenly. The suburbs that consistently go all out include Aspley, Stafford Heights, Coorparoo, The Gap and Forest Lake, with Kallangur, Bray Park and Warner doing the same further north.
The convention across the city is 5pm to 8pm, with the smallest kids going first. A decorated yard or a porch light means a house is taking part; a dark house means it isn’t. Local community Facebook groups post street lists in the last week of October – that’s where the real information lives.
One Brisbane-specific tip: late October evenings here are warm and humid. Full-body costumes are a mistake. Water bottle, light fabric, and plan a shorter loop than you think.
For families who want something organised
Street trick-or-treating is free and fine, but it’s over by 8pm and it needs a neighbourhood that participates. If yours doesn’t, or you want something booked in the diary, there are better options than driving around looking for decorated houses.
Blackbeard’s Treasure is the pick for Halloween weekend with kids – a pirate ship, a dead captain’s hoard and 60 minutes to find it. Alice in Puzzleland is the other one costumed kids respond to, and it’s bright enough that nobody gets rattled.
Worth being clear about: our West End escape rooms are not horror rooms. No actors, no jump scares, nothing chasing anyone. The tension is the clock. For most primary-schoolers that’s exactly the right amount of thrill on Halloween weekend, and the game host can open the door at any point.
Rooms take 2 to 6 players and run 60 minutes, with briefing and photos making it about 90 all up. Pricing is per person and drops with group size: $49 each for two, down to $43 each for five or six. Ages 7 and up, with under-7s free alongside two paying adults.
For adults: the 31st in the city
Fortitude Valley is where the big Halloween parties land, and 2026’s Saturday date means the venues are going harder than usual – Halloween Hall is the largest of the regular ones, running through the night at the end of October. Riverland and the Normanby both have form for doing something on the night, and most of the Valley clubs will run a costume competition.
If you want a better first half of the evening than queuing, put a group of four to six through Bomb at Government House or The Jewel Thief at seven, then head out. We’re open until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and West End is a short ride from the Valley. Boundary Street is two minutes from our door if you’d rather eat first and skip the Valley entirely.
Still on in October, if Halloween isn’t your thing
- Oktoberfest in the Gardens at the Brisbane Showgrounds, Bowen Hills – the biggest of them, and the one that sells out.
- Brisbane German Club in Kangaroo Point runs Oktoberfest across most weekends in October, which is the more relaxed version.
- OktoberFEAST at Eat Street Northshore – cheap entry, sixty-odd vendors, good with kids.
- The river – late October is the last comfortable month before the real humidity. A CityCat run and a walk through South Bank costs almost nothing.
An outdoor option that uses the city
If the weather holds, our Time Cops outdoor adventure sends your group into the streets with a briefcase of gadgets and a device that talks to the future. It runs about 90 minutes on foot, works for ages 7 and up, and the group size isn’t limited by how many people fit in a room – which makes it the easy answer for a birthday that happens to fall on Halloween weekend, or for two families going out together.
Getting to West End on Halloween weekend
We’re in the basement at 75-77 Russell Street, West End – underneath Australia Post, down the ramp into the carpark. South Brisbane station is a ten-minute walk, the 199 and 196 buses both stop on Boundary Street, and there’s metered street parking out front plus some free spaces in the complex above. Arrive ten minutes early so the briefing isn’t rushed.
Frequently asked questions
What time do kids trick-or-treat in Brisbane?
Generally 5pm to 8pm on 31 October, with younger children going earlier in that window. Houses signal they’re taking part with decorations or a porch light left on.
Are escape rooms scary enough for Halloween?
They’re tense rather than frightening. There’s no horror content, no actors in the room and nothing jumps out, so they suit mixed-age groups who want a bit of atmosphere without anyone being upset. If you want genuine fright, that’s what the Valley’s haunted-house events are for.
Can we book for Halloween night itself?
Yes – 31 October 2026 is a Saturday and we run until 10pm. It’s one of the busiest nights of the year, so book online in advance rather than walking in. Groups over six can be split across rooms; get in touch and we’ll set the start times.
Make the most of a Saturday Halloween
A Halloween that falls on a Saturday only happens every few years, and Brisbane in late October is at its best – warm evenings, light until seven, and a city that’s already been celebrating something for a month.
Pick one thing to anchor the night and build around it. Book a West End room, have a look at the kids and families options if you’re organising for a group of children, and if you’re reading this from the other side of the country, our Fremantle team runs a Vampire Hunters outdoor adventure that’s hard to beat on 31 October.
