Kids Birthday Party Ideas in Fremantle
Every parent planning a birthday in Fremantle hits the same wall. The children are too old for a playground party and too young for anything that involves being dropped in town. You want something they will still talk about in a month, that runs to a schedule, and that does not leave you cleaning up afterwards.
An escape room party solves the middle bit. A group of children is locked into a themed room with sixty minutes on the clock and a story to work through, and they have to talk to each other to get out. There is no screen, no sitting still, and no adult running the entertainment.
What actually happens on the day
Groups arrive, get a briefing, and go into their room. The clock runs for sixty minutes. A games master watches from outside and gives hints through the room when a group gets stuck, so nobody stalls long enough to lose interest.
Afterwards everyone comes out for photos with dress-up props and photo boards, which is usually where the noise peaks. Each child takes home a free Print and Play escape game, which covers the party bag.
The whole thing runs 1.5 hours for a single room, or 2.5 hours if you book two.
The packages and what they cost
| Package | What it is | Time | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Party Escape | One escape room per person | 1.5 hours | $38pp |
| Mega Party Escape | Two escape rooms per person | 2.5 hours | $70pp |
| Outdoor Party Quest | One outdoor escape game | 1.5 hours | $33pp |
| Indoor and outdoor | One of each | 3 hours | $60pp |
Indoor parties take 6 to 50 participants. Outdoor games go up to 100, which is the one to look at for a whole class.
Cake, snacks and drinks
You are welcome to bring a birthday cake and light snacks. Soft drinks can be added to any package at $3.50 per person. Free downloadable invitations come with every booking.
Ages, and the supervision rule
Parties are for ages 7 to 15. Under 7s tend to find the puzzles frustrating rather than fun, so we do not recommend it for them.
Children aged 12 and under need a supervising adult in each room. Supervisors do not count towards the player numbers and are not charged, so a party of ten 10-year-olds split across two rooms needs two adults in with them. Worth knowing before you promise the other parents a free afternoon.
Which room to pick
For 7 to 10 year olds, Alice in Puzzleland and Aladdin and the Magic Vault are the easiest way in. Both are bright, story-led and forgiving.
For 10 to 13, Black Jack’s Treasure and Wizard’s Quest step up the difficulty without getting dark.
For 13 to 15, The Legend of the Sword and Wild Western Jail Break are closer to what adult groups play, and Pharaoh is the one to book if the group has done an escape room before and wants beating.
Outdoors, Return to Wonderland, Time Cops and Vampire Hunters run on a phone through the streets of Fremantle. These suit bigger groups and children who do better moving than sitting in one room.
Why Fremantle works for this
The venue is on The Piazza off South Terrace, so the rest of the afternoon is already sorted. Parents who want somewhere to sit have the cafes on South Terrace within a minute’s walk. If the party lands on a weekend, the Fremantle Markets are around the corner. Parking is easiest in the South Terrace car parks rather than on the street.
Common questions
How many children can come?
Six to 50 for indoor parties, and up to 100 for outdoor games. Six is the minimum.
Can we bring a birthday cake?
Yes. You are welcome to bring a cake and light snacks.
Can we book more than one room at the same time?
Yes. Larger groups are split across rooms running at once, which is how most parties of more than twelve work.
What if they cannot solve it?
The games master gives hints through the room. Groups are meant to finish, and very few parties do not get out.
How far ahead should we book?
Weekends and school holidays go first. Two to three weeks ahead is sensible, and more in December and during WA school holidays.
Do adults have to play?
For children 12 and under, yes, one supervising adult per room (supervisors aren’t counted as players). For 13 to 15 year olds, adults can wait outside.
What do they need to bring?
Nothing. Closed shoes are more comfortable than sandals for the outdoor games.
